The new year has been ushered in and life just keeps going, doesn’t it? Between all of the holiday gatherings, getting back into the rhythm of school and work, and handling all of the things that pop up in our day-to-day lives, there may be things in your life or home that need some attention. Maybe it’s cleaning and organizing your kitchen because it’s become a mess due to feeling overwhelmed, or perhaps there are doctor appointments you’ve kept putting off. Let’s face it: adulting requires some time, too. Often because of everything else on our plates, we don’t feel that we have the time to do those adulting things. Which leads to even more stress. But good self-care includes addressing the things that bring us stress.
This February, make a list of the things you want to get done or work on, then plan for 30 minutes once a week to tackle one of those adulting things on your list. Clean as much of that kitchen in 30 minutes as you can, and whatever doesn’t get done can be finished next week or when you have more time later. Or take that 30 minutes and schedule all of your needed appointments. The point is not to change your entire life or get everything under control, but simply to take one thing off the list and off your mind. After a few weeks of knocking things off the list, maybe you’ll find yourself breathing easier.
We know that grief, anxiety, sadness, anger, and numbness, along with plenty of other emotions, can make it difficult to keep a handle on our normal lives. We at COJ believe in you and are here to support you when you need it. Just take one step at a time and give yourselves the grace you need to keep moving forward, however that looks for you.
