Winter inevitably comes with dark and cold, which means that most of us spend more time inside and less time moving. This can be detrimental to our kids’ mental health, especially if they are grieving. We recommend that you engage your family in fun, outdoor activities in order to encourage movement and outdoor time, both which are great for mental health. Some examples include sledding, ice skating, and hiking. Often playgrounds are under utilized in the winter; try bundling up and taking your kids to a playground! Many kids also love using flashlights – consider taking your kid on a flashlight walk after it’s dark out. You can warm up with an outdoor fire pit and warm drinks afterwards! With the proper attire and gear, you can still enjoy the outdoors this winter, which is great for the whole family.
